Easy English Times

Our new monthly periodical, Easy English Times, is housed at the periodical desk in the Reference Department at the Newton Free Library.  It is noncirculating but may be used during your tutoring sessions at the Library.  We hope that you enjoy this wonderful new resource!

Easy English Times brings a world of information to high school and adult learners. It’s a newspaper written in easy English for those in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and literacy programs. It is used in library and workplace literacy projects.

Content is designed for learners of English. New words are defined. You will find idioms. Many of our readers are immigrants so citizenship information is featured. A parenting column is included as is a story to read with children. We print student writing and class photos.

A Teacher’s Corner is included. We are happy to give teachers ideas on how to use the newspaper in the classroom. Easy English Times is designed to help new readers and ESL students get a newspaper “habit.”  We provide opportunities to interact with other ESL and literacy students, teachers and tutors.

In each issue you will find:

  1. That’s good news. Easy English Times remains of the most important, if often overlooked, resources for adult educators, literacy tutors, and ESL teachers of Beginning and Intermediate ESL.
